If you’ve purchased a Pro server, you don’t need to read this as we’ve installed WebUIs for you already. If, on the other hand, you are using LightAct Free and want to try WebUIs or if you’d like to enable them in one of LightAct Pro software licenses, read on.
There are 5 steps that we’ll describe here:
- Installation of a web server
- Setting up a Virtual Host
- Setting up the database
- Setting up a user account
- Setting up LightAct
Installation of WAMP
The first step is to install a web server. There are a couple of solutions freely available on the market such as XAMPP or WAMP. In this guide, we’ll explain the installation of WAMP, however, the process is similar for XAMPP as well.
Head to WAMP download page and download the installation package. Proceed with the installation and follow the instructions. You’ll know that you’ve successfully installed WAMP when, after typing in localhost in your browser address bar, you’ll see this page:
That’s it. Next, we need to Add a Virtual Host.
Add a Virtual Host
In this chapter, we’ll add a virtual host, which will make sure that whenever you type in /laweb/ into a browser’s address bar, you’ll see LightAct WebUI page.
The first step in creating a Virtual Host is to copy all the WebUI files you downloaded to a folder on your machine. Something like C:/webuis/ or C:/laweb/ is appropriate, but feel free to choose any location you want. In the end, your folder should look like this:
Now it’s time to set up your server’s virtual host so that it will point to this folder.
Open your browser and type in /localhost/
Click on Add a Virtual Host button.
In the page that appears there are 3 textboxes and a button.
- As the name, type in laweb (this is usually the first textbox)
- in the absolute path, type in the path of the folder you created before (and into which you copied all of webUI files).
- don’t type anything in the textbox where it asks you for an IP
Click on Start the creation of the VirtualHost button.
When the page says the virtual host has been successfully created, you should restart all Wamp services.
You do that by left-clicking on the green Wamp icon and then clicking on Restart All Services.
After you’ve done that, wait for Wamp icon to turn green again.
Onwards to setting up the database!
Setting up the Database
In this chapter, we’ll create lightact database and import the data into it using a database backup SQL file that was included in WebUI package you downloaded from LightAct website.
Go to http://localhost page again and click on phpmyadmin.
In the login page that opens up, type in root and leave the password field empty.
If the above default credentials don’t work, refer to Wamp or Xampp documentation on their default login credentials. It is also advisable to change these credentials at the end of this process.
Click on the Import button.
Then click on Choose File.
Select the lightactWebUIBackup.sql file that you can find in the databaseBackup folder inside the WebUI archive you downloaded from LightAct website.
Click on Go button.
After it completes successfully, you should see a new lightact database on the left side.
Setting up LightAct user account
The last thing we need to do is to set up the User Account WebUIs and LightAct are both using to log into the database.
We do that by clicking on User accounts tab.
Then we click on Add user account.
The data you should type in is:
- User name: LightAct
- Password: YouaresoLA
Check the Check all checkbox in the Global privileges section.
Then click on Go button.
Now, if you go to http://laweb page again, you should see the Main page of LightAct WebUIs. You should be able to login using the user name LightAct and password YouaresoLA.
Setting up LightAct
There is one more step we have to do before the connection between WebUIs and LightAct will start working. We have to tell LightAct about the login information (database, hostname etc.)
You can set this up in LightAct in the Preferences window that you can open by clicking on File and then Preferences.
Open WebUI tab and in the text boxes enter:
- Hostname: laweb
- Username: LightAct
- Password: YouaresoLA
- Database: lightact
You can click on Test connection button and if everything went fine, you’ll see a green Success label.
Of course, if you are using different database data or created a different user, you have to type in matching information.
When you are done click on Save button.
