Computer vision is the backbone of a large number of interactive installations. The choice of imaging devices, however, greatly influences the reliability of object tracking. That’s why we are very excited that Lightact 3.1.2 includes full support of Nerian stereo cameras.

Mitja Prelovšek, the CEO of Lightact, said: “We want to offer our users all the tools they need to create absolutely stunning interactive installations and with stereo vision technology we are giving them a reliable, wide field-of-view and long-range depth mapping that’s essential in a lot of interactive installations.”

Stereo camera technology has several advantages for interactive installations:

  • It provides a depth map so the tracking is much more reliable than with standard RGB cameras
  • it works well in changing lighting conditions including on projection surfaces
  • you can choose different field-of-views and ranges
